Joseph Vargas Herrera entered the fashion world through an unconventional route. Before the runway shows and international brand collaborations, there was social media.Known online as Jotajoseph, the Colombian model and digital creator began building an audience around fashion, lifestyle, travel and entertainment. Over time, that online presence opened doors to professional modeling and commercial work.
His career has since taken him from Colombia to Miami, Los Angeles and New York, where he has worked across fashion and digital media.
The path reflects a broader shift in the modeling industry. Social platforms have created new ways for emerging talent to build an audience before entering traditional fashion spaces.
A Career That Started Online
Joseph began creating content in Colombia more than a decade ago. Social media gave him a platform to develop his own visual identity while connecting with an audience interested in his work and interests.
Fashion became an increasingly important part of that content. Photoshoots and collaborations eventually led to opportunities in professional modeling.
The move from digital creator to model was gradual. His online work gave him experience in front of the camera, while modeling introduced him to a different side of the fashion industry.
Runway work followed.
Joseph has since appeared in fashion productions associated with FDLA, Art Hearts Fashion, The Bureau FW and The LAB Shows FW. His runway work has included designers and brands such as IDOL JOSÉ, Yirko Zivirich, Pia Bolte, Dsplace, Manuel Febrillet and Carlos Sierra.
One of his notable experiences came during his first FDLA runway appearance at the United Palace in New York. His look was also displayed on billboards in Times Square.

Expanding Beyond the Runway
Modeling is only one part of Joseph’s work.
His social media career has led to collaborations with brands and companies across several industries. His past collaborations include Netflix, Puma, SHEIN, TEMU, Epic Games, Mercedes-Benz, Universal Pictures, Zara, State Farm, Hyatt, Red Bull, Celio France and Lionsgate.
The range of those partnerships reflects the mix of interests that has shaped his content. Fashion sits alongside travel, entertainment and lifestyle.
For creators working across several industries, that variety can be an advantage. It allows them to work with different types of brands while maintaining a personal identity across platforms.
Joseph has continued to combine the two sides of his career rather than treating modeling and content creation as separate paths.
Taking the Online Community Offline
His work has also extended beyond sponsored content and fashion productions.
Joseph and fellow creator Monti Keplar organized a national tour of Colombia, visiting Bogotá, Manizales and Cartagena. The tour gave them an opportunity to meet members of their online community in person while highlighting local venues, businesses and talent.
The experience was another example of how social media audiences can translate into real-world communities.
For creators, that connection has become an increasingly important part of building a career. A large following can provide reach, but direct engagement can create a different kind of relationship between creators and their audiences.
The Next Chapter
Joseph is now looking beyond the markets where he has already established experience.
Paris is among the destinations he hopes to reach as he continues developing his career in international fashion. He has also expressed an interest in working with more designers, fashion brands, tourism companies and entertainment businesses.
The next stage will build on a career that has already crossed several areas of the creative industry.
His route has not followed the traditional model of entering fashion through established agencies or major runways first. Social media played an early role, giving him a platform from which other opportunities developed.
That route is increasingly familiar in an industry where personal branding and digital audiences have become closely connected to fashion and entertainment.
For Joseph Vargas Herrera, the focus now is on continuing that progression while expanding into new markets.
His career began in Colombia, grew through digital media and moved into international fashion. The next destination may be Paris, but the larger story is the way he has combined modeling and content creation to build a career across both worlds.
